Which health calculator should you use?
BMI compares weight with height and is a quick screening measure for adults. Body fat percentage, estimated with the U.S. Navy tape method, describes body composition more directly. The Ideal Weight Calculator shows several published formulas side by side along with the weight range that matches a healthy BMI.
To plan meals, the BMR Calculator estimates the energy your body uses at rest, and the Calorie Calculator multiplies that by an activity factor to estimate daily maintenance calories and targets for gradual weight loss or gain.
Important limitations
These tools use population-based equations and cannot account for muscle mass, pregnancy, medical conditions or medications. Treat the results as starting points and talk with a doctor or registered dietitian before making significant changes.
